The Great Western Trail is an amazing adventure for any Des Moines apartment resident with a taste for nature exploration and discovery. This 16.5 mile trail walks, runs or rides you through some of Des Moines most beautiful natural environments. Its paved for easy travel and carries a bit of history as well. Traveling this route takes Des Moines apartment residents along the abandoned railway that once carried pioneers through Chicago, St. Paul and Kansas City. This trail is also unique in that it runs the gamut of sights and sounds and settings along the way. Des Moines apartment residents can start in their own back yard amid a bright urban setting , walk through grassy meadows, wooded areas and quiet country side to end up on the other end in Martindale and all its urban splendor.
