Apartment life in Detroit can be a lot of fun, as long as you remember to enjoy the good things in life. Sure, fast food and local diners make for good times most of the time, but sometimes you want to throw on a suit and have a night on the town. When it comes time to dine, why not keep the feeling going, and go somewhere that has class written all over it. The Whitney is one of Detroit's more heralded upscale dining spots, and for good reason. The ambrosial food, the stunning decor and the friendly wait staff all come together to make it an experience you won't soon forget. If you're stopping in for dinner, you should start your meal with one of the delicious appetizers. Choose from a warm vegetable Bonaparte, with roasted portobellos, yellow tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and a 25-year-old balsamic vinegar, Duck Confit French toast with strawberry rhubarb compote and a port wine reduction, tempura of beef short rib with water chestnuts, Hoisin and coriander sauce, or seared Nantucket Bay scallops with creamy Gouda grits, sauce Perigueux, and truffles. There are also a number of salad options perfect for starting your meal as well. Moving on to entrees, the options are virtually endless, from seafood, to beef, to lamb, to veal. You can try some seared Lake Superior White, roasted orange and sweet shrimp stir fry, with asian vegetables and basmati rice, Berkshire Farms pork chop with braised spinach, parsnip puree and applewood bacon sauce, Creekstone Farms natural beef filet with roasted sweet potato mash, braised baby carrots, and andouille cream sauce, or seared diver scallops with English pea risotto, applewood bacon, toasted pinenuts and a golden apricot sauce. The perfect topper to your delectable high class meal would be any choice from their extensive dessert menu, including Detroit Opera Cake, layers of almond cake with coffee buttercream and a chocolate ginache, Chocolate Mille Fieulle, chocolate puff pastry with vanilla cream, cashew brittle and chocolate sorbet, Passion Fruit Creme Brulett, with marinated pineapple, coconut and ginger sorbet, and roasted macadamia nuts, the Whitney carrot cake, or a tasting of all their delicious cupcakes. From beginning to end, a meal at The Whitney is a meal you won't soon forget.
