Many residents of Kent apartments are either employed by or attendees at Kent State University, which makes Kent a college town. But that's not all it is. It provides nearly 20 parks and preserves for recreation and fun, holds several community festivals throughout the year, and is nicknamed the "tree city." Lots of history goes into this town of around 28,000 people that was established in 1805. The tree city name probably comes from the Davey Tree Expert Company, which has headquarters here. In the late 1800's, John Davey planted hundreds of trees throughout the city. Started in 1909, the company employs around 7,000 employees in the US and Canada, and is the largest residential tree company in North America.

Located along the Cuyahoga River where it cuts a gorge of approximately 40 feet along the downtown area, there is an abundance of beauty here, as well as many opportunities to get out and enjoy it. In addition to soccer, football, tennis and other sporting programs offered by the Parks and Recreation Department, residents of Kent apartments have everything from neighborhood parks to wildlife preserves to choose from. Fred Fuller Park provides 56 acres of playing fields, playgrounds, restrooms, a covered meeting place and a concession stand.

Al Lease Park is a beautifully landscaped location with a stocked fishing tank, sport fields, a great hike and bike trail, playgrounds and picnic areas. Located along the Cuyahoga River is Franklin Mills Riveredge Park, a relaxing place to sit and watch the falls of the river or to wade and fish when the water level is low. A fantastic nature trail can be found at the 34 acre Jesse Smith Wildlife Preserve.

Annual events to which all residents of Kent apartments are invited include a spring Easter Egg Hunt in Fred Fuller Park, September's Art in the Park, also held in Fred Fuller Park, a Halloween Extravaganza and a Turkey trot to celebrate Thanksgiving on the Fred Fuller Park Hike and Bike trails.

The Kent Free Library is an historic and interesting place to visit. Founded in 1892, it has a collection of nearly 150,000 items in over 55,000 square feet of space. In addition to having plenty of resources for research and enjoyment, the library hosts reading groups and events for the community.

Kent State University occupies nearly 900 acres on the southeast part of town. It has become renowned in its development of liquid crystals, has a nationally recognized fashion design program, and is currently the fifth largest nursing program in the US. Comedians Drew Carey and Arsenio Hall attended college here. Nearly 25,000 of the residents of Kent are students. So go visit the Kent State University Museum to find out its history and more.

For entertainment, besides trying one of the excellent restaurants in town, catch a show at the Porterhouse Theater or The Kent Stage. The nearest hospital, and the only one in Portage County (Kent's county) is 150 bed Robinson Memorial Hospital. It is a large employer of residents, and it also has an outpatient facility in Kent. So whether you're partying or sick, this city takes care of the residents of Kent apartments.
