What is the history of Lake Elsinore?

Lake Elsinore was first established as a city in 1888, and the city has seen a lot of growth over the years. It once was a small resort town in the late 19th century and early 20th centuries, but it now has a population of well over 60,000. Before the city was inhabited by modern civilization, Native Americans called the Elsinore Valley home. Among those were the Luiseño people, who were said to be the area’s first inhabitants. In fact, their pictographs can still be found in the Santa Ana Mountains and in Temescal Valley. Artifacts have also been found throughout Lake Elsinore and in the surrounding canyons and hills. In modern society, Lake Elisnore used to be an escape in the first half of the 1900s. Celebrities would frequently take trips to Lake Elsinore to escape the urban Hollywood scene. In fact, many celebrity homes still stand in the area, including Aimee's Castle, a unique Moorish-style house built by Aimee Semple McPherson.

How is the weather in Lake Elsinore?

"If you enjoy mild temperatures, then Lake Elsinore is a great place to live. Summers are frequently hot and dry and the winters are mild and wet. The climate classification for the area is known as ""dry-summer subtropical."" The hottest month on average is July and high temperatures tend to be around 98 degrees on average. The area’s coldest month, January, constantly sees high temperatures around the 65-degree mark. To cool off, people will frequently use the lake since it's a short drive away. Another option is to drive about an hour to the closest beach in San Clemente."

How do I get around town?

Lake Elsinore has many options for transportation. In the downtown area, residents will frequently walk from place to place. However, the most common form of transportation is a vehicle. Bike riding is also common in the area, and this form of transportation is very popular due to the mild temperatures. The Riverside Transit Agency is the public transportation solution in the area and they have multiple local and express bus routes in the city. The bus system serves the city of Lake Elsinore, including Routes 8, 9, 40, 205, and 206.

What is the Lake Elsinore commute like?

The main highway near Lake Elsinore is Interstate 15. This major interstate connects the city to areas south of Lake Elsinore such as Murrieta, Temecula, and San Diego. To the north, the interstate connects the city to Corona, Ontario, and Las Vegas. State Route 74 also serves Lake Elsinore, which connects the area with Orange County to the west. Given the relatively small population is the area, traffic is usually not a huge issue, but can get congested around rush hour.

There are multiple popular news broadcast stations in Lake Elsinore. Some of the notable ones include KNBC (NBC), KTLA (CW), KABC (ABC), and KFMB (CBS). Additionally, there are many different radio stations that are popular in Lake Elsinore. Some of the more notable stations include 88.7 FM (KSPC), 92.9 FM (KXFG), and 101.1 (KJNI-LP). Given the close proximity to multiple towns within the surrounding area, Lake Elsinore has an ample amount of radio stations to enjoy.

For those trips a little closer to home, many people will take a short drive to Murrieta, Perris, or Alberhill. For a day at the beach, it’ll only take an hour drive to the shores of San Clemente. Lake Elsinore is also a short drive from Disneyland, Hollywood Studios, multiple National Forests, and pristine sandy beaches.
