Las Vegas Overview

Looking for an exciting place to call home? Loads of entertainment, mild winters, and stunning natural surroundings are just a few reasons to move to Las Vegas. This southwestern city offers tons of things to do. Love live shows? Or want to explore the desert? You’ll have plenty of options to choose from when you rent a home here. What else does Vegas offer? Big name employers in the hospitality and tourism industry mean there’s lots of jobs. And this might seem surprising in a tourist city, but the cost of living overall is on the low side. Find out more about why Las Vegas makes such a great place for renters!

What is the history of Las Vegas?

Las Vegas is known for its casinos and entertainment these days. But it started out as a railroad town. Its location between Salt Lake City and Southern California made it a perfect rail route. How old is the city? Las Vegas became one on June 1, 1905. But it wasn’t officially incorporated until 1911. In the 1930s, the city experienced a population boom as construction workers made their way to the area to build the Hoover Dam. During the following decades, the world-famous Strip with its eye-catching casinos and hotels developed. This brought even more people to the area. In fact, the population of Las Vegas nearly doubled from 1985 to 1995! The city’s ongoing reputation as a top tourist destination — and a fun place to be in general — keeps drawing more and more residents to the area.

How is the weather in Las Vegas?

Las Vegas rental homes are in growing demand thanks to the city’s great weather! Summers can be on the scorching side, with temps jumping to the triple digits. But there are plenty of air conditioned indoor places around town to stay cool and comfortable! And with the city being in a desert, there’s hardly any humidity to make the heat feel worse. Winters are incredibly mild. Temps are usually in the 50s during the day and the 40s or upper 30s at night. Spring and fall have comfy daytime temps in the 60s and 70s. Love soaking up the sun? Las Vegas doesn’t get much rain, so that gives you tons of clear, sunny days to enjoy!

How do I get around town?

When you look for Las Vegas rentals, it always helps to know how you’ll get around town. Strolling along the Strip is an option for nightlife and entertainment. But you may find it easier to drive to and from work, depending on where you end up living. Las Vegas does have multiple public transportation options. There’s the Las Vegas Monorail for traveling along the Strip. Or you can take Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) buses. The ones on the Deuce route are available around the clock for added convenience. RTC also has several residential routes for locals. Leaving town? Harry Reid International Airport is close to Las Vegas Boulevard. Major roadways to use for driving include I-15 and US-95.

Why live in Las Vegas, NV?

So what makes Las Vegas homes for rent an incredible option? It’s a great place to enjoy a lower cost of living. You might spend more on activities and amenities, depending on how much you go out. But you’ll save on everyday expenses. And Nevada doesn’t have a state income tax! Major employers in travel and tourism, like MGM Resorts, dominate the job sector in Las Vegas. But there’s also Nellis Air Force Base and employers in other industries. Love the outdoors? You’ll also be close to Red Rock Canyon and Lake Mead for amazing natural areas to explore!

What Las Vegas landmarks should I see?

The Strip gets most of the attention. But Las Vegas has many other landmarks to visit. Head over to Hoover Dam to admire this huge historic landmark. Check out the Mob Museum to see why Las Vegas is known as Sin City. Did you know that Las Vegas has its own “boneyard” for old neon signs? You’ll find those at the Neon Museum. Visit Springs Preserve to see the birthplace of Las Vegas, complete with shows and art exhibits. Learn more about the city’s past at the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort and the Natural History Museum. Looking for natural landmarks? Floyd Lamb State Park has ponds, green space, and wild peacocks!

What is there to do around Las Vegas?

When you search for homes for rent in Las Vegas, you won’t be far from attractions and activities! Catch a live performance at the Sphere. Or enjoy the fountain shows at Bellagio Casino. Glide along the Grand Canal in a gondola at the Venetian Casino. Take a stroll along Fremont Street for sightseeing and nightlife. Go hiking or biking at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area to see the desert environment up close. Love big city life? Visit New York-New York or Paris, Las Vegas! Get a bird’s-eye view of the city from the top of the High Roller Observation Wheel. And remember that Las Vegas has tons of other attractions to enjoy as a resident!

Where is the best place to move in Las Vegas?

You can find rental homes in Las Vegas that suit your budget and needs. Want to be close to the downtown area? West Las Vegas is a historic neighborhood that’s conveniently close to all the action. Looking for a more traditional suburban area? You’ll find that in West Sahara, a neighborhood that has its own lake. The area also has retail stores and other businesses mixed in with residential buildings. Downtown is the place to be if you want to live in the heart of the city. Thanks to its location, rental prices are also higher here. Centennial Hills offers suburban living with mountain views. Summerlin is a master-planned community that’s close to Red Rock Canyon.

I have been a resident for more than 20 years. What drew me to Las Vegas? The apartments are abundant with nice amenities, and the rents are reasonable.

It's so hot you can't take your kids to the park because they'll be burnt by the gym equipment not to mention the crime! There are ALOT of unstable people around as well as motorcycle gangs shooting at each other across traffic. So think twice before you make the leap.

I used to travel frequently for business. After I moved to Las Vegas, I noticed something special about living here. Suddenly, all my clients and business associates wanted to fly to meet me in Las Vegas instead of me having to fly out to see them. If we scheduled a few days to close a deal, they would sign the papers in a few hours, and then it would be time to celebrate! I fell in love with Las Vegas and highly recommend it as a great place to live.
