Living in Sugar House Park apartments is better than living in a prison, which is what the park was before the state of Utah purchased the property in the early 1950's. Yes, this beautiful park with plenty of green space, water and sports area was the location of the Utah State Prison at the end of the 19th century, long before Salt Lake City apartments were even built. All the amenities here at the park certainly make living in Sugar House apartments worthwhile now, however. The 110 acres of lush green space make Sugar House Park a "crown jewel" of parks as it is called in the region and a perfect excuse to get out of your Salt Lake City apartment. But the park has more to offer than just a beautiful space to take a walk or a run. Bring your friends from their Sugar House Park apartments and play a game of baseball or soccer on regulation sized fields, enjoy a great game of volleyball on one of seven courts, play basketball on a concrete court donated by the Utah Jazz basketball team, or bring the kids to play on several children's playscapes. When you have a production to watch, or produce if you have that potential, you may go to the 220 seat amphitheater. The park opens at 7 am daily and is open until 10 pm in the summer and 9 pm in the winter. Please don't bring alcohol from your Salt Lake City apartment either, as it is prohibited.
