In San Antonio, pubs dots the landscapes like stars in the sky, but apartment-ites should know that most of these don't capture the true feeling of a UK bar, where you don't just come to drink, but find out the latest news, enjoy a good time with friends and family, and enjoy good meal all at the same time. One of the few places in San An that you can still enjoy the traditional pub atmosphere is The Lion the Rose. They also have one of the best selections of beer in the city, for those in the mood for a good drink as well. One of the main reasons many make their way to a pub is for a nice brew, and Lion and Rose delivers on that front. Their taps are devoted mostly to beers from Britain, Ireland or Scotland, but you'll find a few German and Belgian favorites as well. They have some of most popular British beers, such as Newcastle, Bass, and Old Speckled Hen, as well as famous Irish varieties like Guinness, Smitwicks, and Harp, as well as Scotland's own favorite Belhaven. They also have German lagers such as Franziskaner Hefe Weisse and Spaten Premium Lager. There are also a number of other varieties in bottles. For authentic pub grub, hardly anyone does it better than this San An locale. If you're looking for traditional British dishes, Lion and Rose has them all, including Fish and Chips, Bangers and Mash, Shepherd's Pie, even Corned Beef and Cabbage, not mention all these can be served with a side of Bubble and Squeak. For more local flavor, try their rib-eye or pepper-crusted steak, sun-dried tomato pasta, or chicken pot pie, or they can find their special Fin, Feather and Shell, crispy filled, chicken tenderloin and shrimp served with fresh, home-made chips and their house-made remoulade. They also have a number of burger and sandwich options, as well as a fine selection of salads, and a soup of the day. Save room for their delicious desserts, including traditional English trifle, Dutch fudge layer cake, or Guinness chocolate ice cream. Authenticity is one of the most important element in a British pub, and this place has that one in the bag. For a delicious meal, great brews, and a real UK atmosphere, apartment-ites will find it hard coming up with a better place to frequent in San Antonio than The Lion and the Rose.
