The Waterfront Bar and Grill is described as San Diego's oldest tavern, but it offers much more than mugs of beer and other libations. It's a great place for San Diego apartment-ites to come enjoy a great burger and fries, one of five tasty sandwiches or yummy fish and chips for lunch, after working downtown all day or before an evening event downtown. The burgers are huge and French fry servings are generous. The atmosphere of the Waterfront is welcoming, with a long bar as you enter, with seating areas on both sides of the door and a patio area as well. In back are pool tables for mixing and mingling with the many downtown professionals who frequent the place. Many years ago, the restaurant sat much closer to the waterfront, thus the identification with it. The walls are decorated with fisherman paraphernalia and many photos of good times. Some of the selections for burgers are the pastrami burger with pastrami, grilled onions and Swiss cheese, the Bubba burger with bacon, cheddar cheese, grilled onions, and Randy Jones barbeque sauce, and the breakfast burger topped with a fried egg and cheese, sitting on an English muffin. All sandwiches are $8.50, and come with fries. Selections include a grilled roast beef on sourdough bread, a bountiful BLT with cheese and Turkey club. If you're a beer drinker, there are plenty to choose from, with American, English and German beers on the menu, with a full bar as well. It's a wonderful thing to sit on the outside patio and watch the traffic as it goes by, sipping a Boddingtons's or Peroni. Celebrate a birthday, anniversary or work event such as a promotion at the Waterfront. They offer party service at the restaurant with a wide selection of appetizer trays and can provide open bar or ticket bar if requested. Breakfast is another specialty of the Waterfront, with basic bacon and eggs, steak and eggs, French toast or pancakes at a very affordable price of about $5 a plate. The Mexican brunch, even more appealing with Pazole (Mexican soup), Huevos Rancheros and Chorizo and eggs is $9.50 per serving. It's a great place to go on your way out of town, or as a stop on the way back in, as it's en route to the airport. Located just off I-5, the Waterfront is easy to get to from any apartment and a great place to enjoy a great meal and have some fun. If you are sitting on your couch, trying to figure out what you are going to do for dinner...or any meal for that matter, get off your bum and head out to Waterfront Bar and Grill! Go Fish!
