Part of the appeal of living in a beachside resort community like the Tampa Bay area is the proximity to open water. Odds are good that you might even be able to view the ocean from your apartment terrace, although for a true up-close-and-personal encounter it is hard to beat an evening of bayside cuisine at the Bahama Breeze. Intent on bringing the flavors of the Caribbean to mouth-watering life, the Bahama Breeze has been drawing in loyal customers for years. Its popularity is ever-growing, and the service tends to operate on island time, mon, so give yourself a good couple of relaxing hours to chill on their open deck and enjoy the laid-back ambience. A few cocktails will likely help you soak up the un-hurried experience, so be sure and sample their fresh fruit Mojito selection (ranging from mango and pineapple to strawberry and all made with fresh squeezed cane sugar and hand-twisted spearmint leaves) or a tasty Caipirinha (a combination of rum and fresh lime that is touted as 'the national drink of Brazil'). A taste of the islands is promised and delivered at the Bahama, with traditional island flatbreads, buttermilk battered shrimp and crab claws straight from St. Thomas all competing for appetizer superiority. Jerk chicken and coconut shrimp are obvious entrée options, although we recommend going for the full fins and ordering off their fresh fish menu. While selections change daily, Tilapia and Salmon are bound to be offered, with a variety of sautés and wood fire grilled cooking methods to choose from. Accompanied by cinnamon-dashed mashed sweet potatoes and zesty tropical rice, the only thing fishy about the Bahama Breeze's entrees is the deceptively modest pricing.
