Tujunga Overview

Tujunga, California, is a peaceful city located about 30 minutes north of Los Angeles at the foothills of the Angeles National Forest. With a population around 20,000 residents, it's the perfect place for a small town feel while still having access to all the exciting things of a big city. Being in southern California, it gets plenty of sunshine and hot days with beautiful views of the mountains. Apartments in Tujunga are more affordable than in LA, so this might be the place for you if you're looking to be nearby yet save some money.

What is the history of Tujunga?

The area now known as Sunland and Tujunga was originally home to the Tongva people and in 1840 the area was part of the Rancho Tujunga Mexican land grant. It was later marked off as the Tejunga Park Tract. In 1885, Monte Vista began as 2,200 acres of the Tejunga Park Tract were divided into fiveátoá40 acre lots. This areaábecame known as Sunland by 1906 thanks to its nearby post office. In 1907, William Edward Smythe joined Marshal V. Hartranft to found their own utopia, which they named Tujunga. They divided the land into 1.5 acre lots and by 1927 the population had surpassed Sunland at 4,000 residents.
