Winston Salem is the 5th-largest city in North Carolina and is considered part of the Piedmont Triad region in Forsyth County. It is home to the tallest office building, known as the Wells Fargo Center. It is also known as the “Twin City” because of its dual heritage for Arts and Innovation. In 1913, the two cities of Winston and Salem were merged.

How do I get around town?
The Winston-Salem Transit Authority (WSTA) is a free public transportation provider for the city, making 26 daily routes between 5:30am and midnight. The Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART) is another bus service that connects Winston-Salem to nearby areas such as Boone, Greensboro and Mt. Airy. Amtrak and Greyhound are available as well.

The Business-40 runs east-to-west through downtown Winston-Salem and loops around to I-40. US-52 and NC-8 run north-and-south and are the predominant freeways in Winston-Salem. I-74 connects Winston-Salem to the city of Highpoint. Traffic congestion is fair to mild, even during rush hour time periods.

Winston-Salem Journal is the primary newspaper, but there is also the Winston-Salem Chronicle which focuses on the African-American community. The Moravians, who originally settled in Winston-Salem from Pennsylvania, have a living museum of restored buildings, known as Old Salem. Reynold original estate can be visited, known as the Reynolda Gardens.

The largest shopping mall in North Carolina is the Hanes Mall. There are college football games to see at the BB&T Field.
