Dating back to the late 1800s and taking its namesake from a prominent railroad engineer, Converse is the site of the oldest 4H Club in the entire nation. With a saloon, post office and several cotton mills to its credit by the early 1900s, the city boasted five times its original population by the 1970s. Currently home to several dozen businesses and over 12,000 residents, Converse is a true Texas success story that shows little sign of slowing down anytime soon.

Farm Road 1976 acts as the primary thoroughfare in the city limits, with Interstate 35 and a number of other major highways not far away. I-10 lie just to the south and stretches all the way to California, and 1604 heads north towards Austin as well. Getting around the city proper is generally a breeze on most days, although I-35 is notorious for steady traffic on most morning and evenings. Add to that a typical amount of road construction and commuters will want to allow for extra time on most days.

What Converse landmarks should I see?
The Giant Junk Stag is exactly what it sounds like - a huge deer constructed of debris that must be seen to be appreciated. Don't forget the Alamo is only a few miles away and is simply a must-see, while the nearby Japanese Tea Gardens are worthy of an entire afternoon of exploration.
What is there to do around Converse?
Spend an afternoon searching for treasures at the La Villita Historic Arts Village, or sample some classic Texas brisket with a visit to Grady's BBQ. Try your hand at some horseshoes and some local pints at Ranger Creek Crewing, or do your best to escape the Amazing Mirror Maze in nearby San Antonio.
Any annual festivals or Converse events to know?
The Sacred Springs Pow Wow is a dance and crafts-filled annual event that brings in the crowds to Converse, and the Maverick Music Festival is yet another popular regional attraction. Jazz n' Blues in the Park is a great way to tap your toes all summer long, and the annual Christmas Parade usually brings out a sighting of the jolly old elf Santa himself.
Where are the nearby vacation spots?
Head down route I-10 to the artistic destination of Marfa, or explore even further west to the Big Bend National Park for an exciting camping getaway. The beaches of Corpus Christi lie just to the south by a few hours, and Port Aransas is a relaxed beach community located along the western coast of Texas. For those looking to truly road trip, New Orleans is about seven hours away via I-10, and the live music hub of Austin is always just an hour or so to the north along I-35.
