Hanover Overview

Offering easy access to the excitement of Baltimore while maintaining a charm all its own, Hanover is an excellent locale for anyone eager to connect with the great state of Maryland. From plenty of retail shopping to world class amenities like national landmarks and a thriving job market, this is one township well worthy of consideration.

What is the history of Hanover?

Founded as a post office stop along the B&O Railroad line in the late 1800s, Hanover has since established itself as an ideal bedroom community for working class families as well as an ever-expanding retail center. The Arundel Mall opened in 2000, and growth around the region unsurprisingly exploded. 2010 saw the passing of gambling legislation, and by 2012 casinos had opened in the area as well.

How is the weather in Hanover?

Precipitation throughout the year is typical, and the summers are thus quite humid and warm. Spring and fall are generally pleasant, highlighted by cool evenings. Winters can see snow, although large accumulation is uncommon.

How do I get around town?

Public transportation is offered in the way of bus and taxis, and the Thurgood Marshall Airport is quite convenient to a number of Hanover apartments. Still, most locals rely upon a personal auto for most of their day-to-day travel needs, although bicycling has recently become in vogue as well.

What is the Hanover commute like?

The Baltimore-Washington Parkway acts as a major roadway in the region, as does Highway 100. Both can see considerable commuter traffic on a daily basis, particularly during the 9-to-5 peak hours. Fender benders and construction are likewise commonplace, and those residing in apartments in Hanover can expect a fairly drawn out commute on most days.

What are the local media outlets?

The 'Washington Post' is a popular print news outlet in the region, and broadcast television is diverse and plentiful, thanks to a number of affiliates in the greater Baltimore area. Radio is eclectic, ranging from hip-hop and classic rock to sporting news and talk genres. Local college radio is also within reach, offering indie rock and jazz.

Why live in Hanover, MD?

When it comes to convenience, Hanover apartments seemingly have it all - plenty of local shopping, highly lauded schools, easy access to the greater Baltimore job market and an abundance of hometown pride. With a seemingly ever-expanding assortment of new development in the city, Hanover has earned its stripes as a spotlight locale of the Maryland scene.

What Hanover landmarks should I see?

The Yesteryear Antique Center is a must-see hot spot for historic enthusiasts, and the Maggio Olive Oil Company has been serving Hanover for decades. The Chase-Lloyd House is a short drive away, as is the Fort McHenry National Monument. Of course, the National Aquarium is yet another local landmark that never grows old.

What is there to do around Hanover?

Try your luck with a visit to the Horseshoe Casino, or grab the family for some old-timey fun with dinner and a show at Medieval Times. The Pier 6 Concert Pavilion is the hot spot in the summertime for live music events, and the Oriole's are a short ride away for baseball fans from numerous Hanover rentals.

Any annual festivals or Hanover events to know?

The annual Hackathon is a great hit with computer buffs, and an array of arts and crafts festivals call the region home. The Chesapeake Crab and Beer Festival is always a hit on both fronts, and the Winter Festival of Lights draws large crowds from all over Maryland each and every holiday season.

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

Washington, DC and its huge assortment of historic hot spots are within easy reach, including the famed Smithsonian and the White House. Baltimore proper offers much in the way of live music venues, form Ram's Head Live to the rock-n-roll joint The Sidebar. For those eager to get back to nature, Maryland boasts a large assortment of camping, fishing and hiking options, with national forests in North Carolina yet another excursion for those truly desiring an epic road adventure.

Where is the best place to move in Hanover?

Apartments in Hanover are as diverse as the many residents that call this Maryland city home, from the luxury of Doresy Ridge to the family-oriented ambiance of the Ridegwood Apartments. Arundel Preserve is a newly unveiled complex offering over 500 rentals, not to mention walking access to world-class shopping, dining and entertainment options. So whether you are in the market for a thrifty one bedroom unit close to the onramp of Highway 100, or want a top-floor spread complete with all the amenities, odds are great that the ideal Hanover apartment for your lifestyle is out there waiting for you. Good luck with your Maryland apartment search!
