Elias Glenn, a district attorney, established Glen Burnie in 1812 as �Glennsburne.� Glenn�s grandson, William Wilkins Glenn, expanded the area in 1854 by incorporating the Curtis Creek Mining, Furnace and Manufacturing Co. It became an official state subdivision in 1888 some time after William Glenn�s death. Interestingly, it was a postmaster who separated the name into two words, Glen Burnie, in 1930.
