Los Alamitos, which means little cottonwoods in Spanish, dates to the 1890s when sugar beets were introduced to the area. The first sugar refinery in the state was built here and along with its housing for the workers. The city was chartered on March 1, 1960, and has been a favorite Los Angeles suburb ever since.

How is the weather in Los Alamitos?

Los Alamitos has weather that can be described as delightful with few extremes. The warmest months are from July to October and also the driest. You can expect to see the most rain between November and March. The windiest time of year is from November to May. If you love sunshine, this is a great place to live.

How do I get around town?

Most people in Los Alamos will get around using an automobile. Public bus service is available and several rail stations are located within 10 miles. UBER, LYFT and taxicab service are also available if you need a ride. John Wayne International Airport is the closest with its location in Santa Ana but LAX is not much farther.

What is the Los Alamitos commute like?

Depending on where you are commuting to and from, I-605, I-10 and CA -60 are the best major highways to Los Angeles. With no traffic, it is around 35 to 45 minutes, with traffic it can be much longer. Commuter van services are available in the area and there is a metro link station in Anaheim.

What are the local media outlets?

Patch.com is an online newspaper that provides good local news coverage for Los Alamitos, CA. as does the print newspaper The Orange County Register. Another excellent way to keep up with what is going on is Event-New Enterprise. Most TV and radio stations come out of Los Angeles.

The Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular and Winter Wonderland are not to be missed.

You couldn’t ask for a better location than Los Alamitos with its proximity to the beaches of Southern California, Disneyland in Anaheim and all that Los Angeles and San Diego have to offer. Just two hours away you can be skiing or hiking at Bear Mountain or enjoying the desert resort of Palm Springs.
