Superior Overview

Superior has an enormous amount of history that can easily be enjoyed throughout the year. Residents can see the historic lighthouse that safely brought so many explorers to Superior?s shores on their way inland. Superior played a large part in the development of our country today. Fortunately, the history has been preserved as the city continues to keep up with modern times. Residents enjoy a host of amenities and experience all four seasons. From enjoying the beach during warm weather to shredding slopes during the winter, residents truly have the ability to enjoy it all when they call Superior home.

What is the history of Superior?

The first Europoeans to visit Superior were French travelers. They used Douglas County and Superior to funnel trade and voyagers into the mainland. The first log cabin was erected in 1853, and the city of Superior was finally founded on November 6, 1854. It was not until 1889 that the city was fully incorporated. While the exact year is not known, the slogan ?Where Sail Meets Rail? was founded some years after the city was incorporated.

How is the weather in Superior?

Residents living in apartments in Superior experience  humid continental climate with temperatures that are controlled by Lake Superior. Lake effect weather is incredibly common in the area because Lake Superior stores large amounts of hot and cool air. Summer highs reach 76 degrees and winter lows average 3 degrees. There are only 177 days with sunshine and 110 days with some form of precipitation throughout the year in Superior. Residents can expect at least 30 inches of rain annually and over 63 inches of snow in the winter.

How do I get around town?

Superior is well suited for residents to run errands on foot during the summer months. However, the winter months can make running errands more challenging due to the snow. There is a wide variety of public transportation to help residents get from point A to B throughout the year. Some bike infrastructure has been added to the city to ensure cyclists are safe on roadways. Many residents own their own vehicle and use it to get around Superior. Those who wish to travel regionally can take advantage of the low fares at the Richard I. Bong Memorial Airport.

What is the Superior commute like?

Residents in Superior typically only spend 18 minutes commuting one way to work each day. However, this time can be increased in the winter due to large snowfall and black ice. Fortunately, residents can access both Interstate 35 and Interstate 535 via highways 2 and 53. When traveling to the airport, most residents can easily reach their destination in less han 15 minutes by hopping on highway 35.

What are the local media outlets?

Residents in Superior apartments have a number of local media outlets they can turn to for the latest news in the area. KBMX 107.7 continues to receive high praise from long-time locals. The best local news station is NBC KBJR 6. For those who still read the newspaper, the Superior Telegram is still in circulation and has been since 1855. Those who prefer to get their news online can turn to Positively Superior.
