Superior Overview

Superior has an enormous amount of history that can easily be enjoyed throughout the year. Residents can see the historic lighthouse that safely brought so many explorers to Superior?s shores on their way inland. Superior played a large part in the development of our country today. Fortunately, the history has been preserved as the city continues to keep up with modern times. Residents enjoy a host of amenities and experience all four seasons. From enjoying the beach during warm weather to shredding slopes during the winter, residents truly have the ability to enjoy it all when they call Superior home.

What is the history of Superior?

The first Europoeans to visit Superior were French travelers. They used Douglas County and Superior to funnel trade and voyagers into the mainland. The first log cabin was erected in 1853, and the city of Superior was finally founded on November 6, 1854. It was not until 1889 that the city was fully incorporated. While the exact year is not known, the slogan ?Where Sail Meets Rail? was founded some years after the city was incorporated.
