I have lived in a rent controlled apartment for quite some time now and I must say Rent Control is a Big Help in today's economy, we are protected from outrageous rent hikes, however the Landlord also has rights. One of them being upgrading the apartment (painting, new Carpet, new flooring in the Kitchen and the Bathroom, can only be done by the Landlord and of course he will gladly do it along with raising the Rent. (That's the down side of Rent Control). However with that in mind my wife and I ...
do our best to keep the apartment in good living condition until I retire then we will move into a house, however that's 11 years away, but the area is pretty much peaceful, the streets are clean and mostly house's are on the block. So in all you make your adjustments to stay comfortable, my home is my castle and I treat it as such.
