It's really, really difficult to find affordable housing in the Los Angeles area. Typical rents in this part of the Valley range from $1,250-$1,600 a month. Rents at this building are below that average. I have lived here for 14 years and pay $1,072. The rent control has kept my rent below market. Also there are a few nice touches such as a dishwasher, an on-site manager, and a convenient location. However, there are a lot of issues at this building. The walls are paper-thin and have no ...
insulation. Summer temperatures inside my apartment reach over 90 degrees (I have a thermometer). Even typical noise levels travel around this building and through the walls constantly. The on-site manager is convenient, but unfortunately if anything needs attention in your apartment, his tone is less helpful and much more accusatory. The materials used to repair problems are often the cheapest materials available. It's often more convenient to just make the changes yourself. So, there are a few things that make 5444 Bellingham a decent place to live, but now that I have the money to afford it, I'm moving out.
