Drexel is located in the Hyde Park/Kenwood neighborhoods of Chicago, directly north of and adjacent to Hyde Park. Once referred to as the “Lake Forest of the South Side,” Kenwood developed as a pleasant residential area in the late 1850’s. It was home to some of the city’s business elite, including lumber merchant Martin Ryerson, meatpacker Gustavus Swift and Sears & Roebuck executive Julius Rosenwald. Today it is home to such luminaries as President Barack Obama and the Reverend Louis Farrakhan. A drive in the immediate vicinity shows how the old melds with the new. All along Drexel are splendid apartment buildings surrounded by both new and vintage large homes.

August 21, 2018This was my first apartment - I was really excited to move into such a cozy space. I was taken on a tour of an updated apartment, but when it came time to sign my lease, I was moved into a completely different unit with old cabinets, a half stove, a noisy refrigerator, a very old range hood that doesn't work and an old tub that has been painted over. Bait and switch. To add insult to injury, I was moved above a very noisy tenant who played music so loud, the floors in my apartment would shake. I ...filed several noise complaints that were ignored. I had to threaten to take the property manager to court to get them to take me seriously. It took eight months for the noise to stop. Ridiculous. During the winter, they will fail to turn on the heat. Last winter, I had to contact them multiple times to get the heat turned on. That should never happen. My heat was off for three days coming into the new year and I got sick. Before that, my heat was off two days in a row before Christmas - I got sick then. Cozy studio apartment
October 9, 2015My apartment is great. Nice quiet location. It's a top floor unit so it's relatively warm at all times. There's a bus stop at the corner, plenty of green space for people with children or a love of nature, and it's a friendly residential area.
