In general, the apartment is in good repair and management has been prompt - but there's no anti-smoking policy or any kind of lease protections, and the people in the apartment under my bedroom smoke. A lot. The secondhand smoke drifts into my bedroom, and management did not even respond to my complaint, much less address it. I'm paying over 1400 a month in rent and sometimes unable to sleep safely. As a result, I cannot recommend living here - many apartment complexes and housing communities ...
have adopted rules about smoking, which are completely legal to enact in these spaces, in order to ensure resident safety.

Overall I had a great experience and would move back. However the water/gas bills were very high, and they didn’t really figure out why. 2 people and one month our bill was about 170. And it never went back down to the 70 dollar range like when we moved in. We cut using the dishwasher and I took showers at my gym, it didn’t seem to matter.

My boyfriend and I moved into North Shore at the peak of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Kenyetta was our go to girl in the leasing office. Whenever we had a question or concern she was always right there to solve any issue we had. The overall atmosphere of the complex is very friendly and neighborly. The apartments are SUPER SPACIOUS with floor to ceiling windows in every room and for very great prices! Maintenance was always quick to respond when you put in a request as well. I would 1000% recommending ...

We were living at Northshore garden more than three years. we stayed couple of other places, but North Shore is the best compare to the other places in every aspect. The place is great, and staff are friendly and very personable specially Bill and Heather. We have only plus thing to say about this apartment complex. We are given 5% discount from the rent for all these years because we are student from Old Dominion University (ODU). I do not think any ODU student can find a better apartment ...
complex than this near to the University. So, I would recommend this place for Old Dominion University student without any hesitation. They also have a very good maintenance staff. I remembered that we had several emergency repairs at night on weekends (one happened a day before my son’s first year birthday), they came within half an hour and fixed the problem. Recently, we transferred to a downstairs apartment and transfer process were smooth and property manager Bill helped a lot during this process and made sure that everything is within our satisfaction. The property overall was very clean and well kept. We have not had any pest problem during all these years. This is a safe neighborhood and We never had any major issues. I think if you are searching for home away from home, I think Northshore Gardens is one of the best place to live near Old Dominion University.

My husband and I moved into the property because of the short distance to Norfolk base. It was great having a short drive in the morning and not having to fuse with traffic. Ms. Kenyetta was the staff member we most often spoke with and she was always very friendly and helpful. Actually, everyone in the office was always kind and friendly. The property was well maintained and any issues quickly fixed. In the year we stayed there, our neighbors were very quiet, never had an issue with anyone. ...
Before COVID, my family enjoyed the gym and walking around the area. We only moved because the housing prices are good right now. Being in the military and needing to be close to work, living here was very convenient and affordable. I was not looking for luxury, I wanted to be home quick so this was a great choice and afforded me the opportunity to save money for my new home. The place is not perfect but packs a punch for the price. If you are looking for affordable living close to the base, this could be the place for you.

What a great place to rent! From their thoughtfulness on holidays to every day service and maintenance we really enjoyed our time here. The property manager Bill was always warm and welcoming and understanding as well, as was the office employee’s. My husband and I really loved it here! We made life time friends with one of the staff, Mildred, and she would always keep an eye on our apartment in terms of mail and our car when my husband and I were out of town due to deployments. years roughly that we lived here, we thankfully only had one maintenance emergency due to heavy rain fall, which they responded to very promptly! During this maintenance emergency Bill offered the model apartment for my husband and I to stay in while the issue was handled. We were a newly married couple when we first moved to Virginia and we got the one bedroom apartment which we loved, we were able to decorate the walls and make it our own. Later down the road we moved across the way to a really nice two bedroom apartment newly remodeled Kitchen which again we loved so very much. The property overall was very clean and well kept. The property does allow dogs and everyone seemed to do a pretty good job of picking up after their dogs, which is a really big deal when you find yourself wanting to cut through the grass to get your apartment in the rain! The neighbors were very friendly as well, and we never had a noise complaint. The property remained quiet during all times of the day, even on holidays! The amenities are very nice, from the pool, to the gym, and the community center, everything is kept very clean. In the community center you find coffee, comfy chairs, as well as computers and printers for you to print. If you are considering applying to Northshore Gardens I feel as though you won’t regret it!

The manager is horrible; some of the staff was clueless about a lot of situations. If it didn’t involve you paying your rent they didn’t care about anything else.

We were model tenants. Always paid rent on time. We had great credit when we applied so they lowered the security deposit. At move-out they had us pay to have the carpet professionally cleaned and then they charged over $1,000 to replace the carpet. They will nickel and dime you until you have nothing left of your deposit. Do not live here. There are better apartments in the area.

Thank you for your review. We are glad to have model prospects applying to rent at North Shore Gardens. We also appreciate that you paid your rent on time. Having the carpets professionally cleaned at move out is a part of the lease agreement and required of all residents. The only reason that replacement would have been charged would have been because the professional carpet estimators deemed it necessary. We welcome pets at our community; however, when the damages are severe the carpet replacement cost is charged back to the resident(s). My husband and I moved into these apartments as newlyweds. We came all the way from California as my Husband was stationed here. We needed a place fast, moved in the first day we viewed these apartments because the staff at the front desk Heather and Susan were very helpful. The apartment looked great when we moved in. Clean carpets, nice kitchen, and appliances. The Maintenance is very helpful during the day and ussually very fast and helpful. If you need anyting after hours the 24-hour staff ...
isn't too available. The maitnence is great with the outkeep outside. NEVER had any leaks, bugs, mold, nothing. Utilities are great and inexpensive, and we run the heat or AC almost 24/7. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of it being difficult to find parking here after around 6 and it's a little pricey, but still affordable. Overall though my husband and I love these apartments and have extended our lease.
