I've lived in my apartment in Carlsbad Village for nearly 9 years for several reasons...it's walking distance to the beach and town, the maintenance staff is awesome, the apartments have a Huge patio that you can't find anywhere and everything is well maintained.

The Village apartments are all 1 br roughly 700 sq ft, but mostly open so it can feel spacious if you lay the furniture out right. The bathroom is quite large and also has a window which gets good ocean breeze for ventilation. The finishes are old and the windows could use replacing, but the privacy, the location and the yard increase it's value. They are only 1 story (very private) and have covered parking and lots of storage. These apartments are great if you have pets. Each unit has a ...
large private backyard which is awesome if you have a dog and the community also has designated off-leash play areas so pets can socialize. Amenities for humans include a fitness center (small in size but definitely adequate), a small pool with lounge chairs and BBQ area, and only 7 blocks from Carlsbad Village for restaurants and dining. Maintenance staff is quick to respond if you need anything fixed.

Pros: Close to the beach, quiet complex, pleasant neighbors, private front and backyards for each unit, mature property foliage, friendly maintenance personnel, thick walls (we never hear our neighbors, unless we're outside), flexibility to garden and decorate yards as desired.
Cons: Close to the train tracks (when the Amtrack passes, it is *very* loud), no dishwashers, no air-conditioning, carpet in living room, some loud dogs.

100 single-level 1-bedroom units with your own private backyard.
Short 5-block walk to the middle of Carlsbad Village, or the beach and the Carlsbad boardwalk. Sparkling pool & grill area in the center of the complex. All interior doors are 36" wide, including the large bathroom, so wheelchairs are no problem. The best for last: You can have Dogs!
Great landscaping and the maintanance men are top notch and quick to address problems.

The Village Apartments are in an amazing location. You are only a couple blocks from the beach, bars, food, lagoon, train and malls. They are set up great with a backyard which is perfect for dogs. The spacing on the inside is great, making it feel very open. They do a good job of keeping everything cleaned up, including the pool area which is basically spotless every time i've gone. Highly recommended.
