Arlington, Massachusetts of the Town situated in Middlesex County. It is approximately 6 miles outside of the city of Boston, located just to the Northwest. It is a city that is known for its friendly people, rich history, and strong school system. For these reasons, there are a lot of people who are flocking to Arlington, Massachusetts, particularly because of the access it provides to the city of Boston. What is the history of Arlington?

Like the rest of Massachusetts, the area surrounding present-day, Arlington was one of the first areas settled by European settlers. The town itself dates back to 1635. At the time, it was called Menotomy. During the next few decades, the town had its struggles, but it would survive. The town played an integral role in the American Revolution, and it was one of the places Paul Revere rode through during his famous midnight ride. There are lots of historical artifacts and exhibits that pay homage to this part of the town's history. Eventually, it would grow to become a true suburb of Boston, which is how it exists today.

How is the weather in Arlington?

The weather in Arlington, Massachusetts is similar to the rest of the Greater Boston area. The town does have four distinct seasons. It can get hot during the summer, as temperatures will regularly get over 90 degrees Fahrenheit. During the winter, the town gets its fair share of snow, although it is limited somewhat by its proximity to the coast. It is not unusual for temperatures to get down to 0 degrees Fahrenheit during the winter. The humidity in Arlington is significant, similar to the rest of the Eastern seaboard. 

How do I get around town?

The vast majority of people who live in Arlington, Massachusetts have a car. Even though it is not required for someone in Arlington to have a car, particularly if they go to Boston regularly, it does make things more convenient. There is mass transit available, as the number 77 bus and the MBTA red line both go through Arlington; however, if someone is not traveling between Arlington and Boston, they may have a difficult time finding a mass transit option that goes to wherever they want to go. The closest major airport to Arlington is Boston Logan International Airport, which is located in Boston. 

What is the Arlington commute like?

Traffic in Arlington is heavy throughout most parts of the day, similar to the rest of Boston. Traffic does get significantly worse during rush hour in the morning and evening. There are several major roads that go through Arlington. They include US Route 3, State Route 60, and State Route 2A. Some of the other major roads in Arlington include Gray Street, Warren Street, Appleton Street, and Washington Street. Even though traffic is not nearly as bad as it is in the city of Boston, traffic is still very heavy in the general Arlington area. 

What are the local media outlets?

The major media outlets in Arlington are the same as those in Boston. Some of the most popular TV stations include WCVB, WHDH, WFXT, WSBK, and WGBH. Some of the most popular radio stations include WBOS, WROR, WBUR, and WWBX. Some of the most popular newspapers include The Patriot Ledger, the Boston Business Journal, the Cape Cod Times, the Boston Globe, and the Boston Herald. 

Why live in Arlington, MA?

There are several reasons why so many people decide to live in Arlington, Massachusetts. First, the cost of living is a bit lower in Arlington when compared to Boston. Even though property values are high, they are not nearly as astronomical as they are in Boston. Second, living in Arlington still provides easy access to the city of Boston. There are several major roads that go from Arlington to Boston, and there are mass transit options that go from Arlington into Boston as well. In addition, living in Arlington provides easy access to Boston Logan International Airport. Finally, the school system in Arlington is very strong. Parents do not have to look far to make sure their children have access to a strong education. 

What Arlington landmarks should I see?

Because of the rich history in Arlington, Massachusetts, there are lots of exceptional landmarks in the local area. For example, a lot of people like to visit the Jefferson Cutter House, which is one of the oldest areas in the city. This is a great opportunity to learn about the role Arlington played in the birth of the new world. Another major attraction is the Cyrus Dallin Art Museum. As the name suggests, this is a great opportunity to learn about art, and the artifacts are displayed in a very old house. Finally, the Lyman Estate is not that far away, and there are tours conducted at this historic property as well.

What is there to do around Arlington?

There are lots of fun things to do in Arlington, Massachusetts. For example, a lot of people love to go for a walk in Mount Auburn Cemetery, which is a historic garden cemetery that features a tall tower. Those who love the outdoors may want to swing by the Alewife Brook Reservation, which is a beautiful wildlife area for hiking and bird-watching. This is also a great place to watch the leaves change color in the fall. Finally, Arlington is also a great location for sports, as residents do not have to look very far to catch a baseball game or basketball game.

There are fun annual festivals in Arlington, Massachusetts throughout the year. There's always a fun Christmas parade, which many people love to watch as they line the streets. Arlington also has a lot of festivals that take place during the summer. Live music happens in a lot of the local parks, and there are a lot of breweries that hold festivals throughout the year as well. Of course, the biggest festivals always take place in Boston, which is only a few miles away.

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

One of the major advantages of living in Arlington is that there are a lot of nearby vacation opportunities. Lots of people love to head north to Maine, particularly the Damariscotta area, where they can relax on the coast, enjoy some ice cream, and eat lobster. Some people in Boston like to head south to New York City. It is the largest city in the country, and there is always something fun going on. Finally, many people also like the head even further south to Philadelphia. This is another major city with a strong sports feel.

There are lots of great places to live in Arlington. Those who need to go to Boston may want to live in the Southeast area of the city, as there are lots of Arlington apartments available.
