"It can be exciting to attend a university founded on the principles of the first president of the US, George Washington, who strongly argued for a university in our nation's capital. George Washington University (GW) is well known for its undergraduate programs in International Affairs, International Business, Political Science, and Political Communications programs, as well as its graduate and doctoral programs in business, social sciences, international affairs, medicine, education, public health, and law. An excellent education can be earned here, with plenty of national and world politics occurring nearby, but be ready to pay for it. GW is one of the more expensive educational institutions in the US for tuition, and not including housing expenses. The benefits of the location of the university are many, however, including visits by world leaders, excellent research facilities nearby, and access to the White House (six blocks away from the Foggy Bottom campus) and the senate and congressional houses where senators and representatives work on a daily basis. An abundance of student activities exist at the college, with over 300 student organizations, 14 men fraternities and 12 women sororities, plus numerous multicultural, professional, community-service and honor group Greek organizations. George Washington University is a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference and most of its athletic teams, with a mascot of ""George,"" play at the NCAA Division I level. The basketball team has sent a few of its former team members to the NBA, and its soccer team has seen success. At GW, you have a huge selection of residence halls with a variety of amenities, location, roommates, suites or individual rooms, and meal plan options. For those who prefer to live off-campus, there are many, many options in Washington DC area apartments that fit every need. Check out some of the great ones we have listed here at ApartmentHomeLiving.com! This is an impressive campus to visit, possibly when you've finished touring the National Mall, as you can see the Washington Monument from the campus. And if you're thinking about attending here, you're in the company of memorable alumni including Harry Reid, Colin Powell, Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis and Alec Baldwin."
