Brookline features seven protected historic districts that are simply stunning to look at. What is the history of Brookline?

Once part of the Algonquian territory, Brookline was initially settled by European colonists in the early 17th century. Known as the hamlet of Muddy River, in 1705, it was incorporated as the independent town of Brookline. It was named as such because the northern and southern borders of the town were marked by 2 small rivers, or brooks. 

How is the weather in Brookline?

The climate of Brookline, Massachusetts is a mainly humid continental climate, with summers that are warm and winters that are cold and snowy. The area has its share of extreme winter weather storms. Summers bring thunderstorms, with about 30 days of thunderstorm activity per year. Brookline experiences a wide variety of temperatures throughout the year, with the average being as high as 82 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer and in the wintertime as low as 16 degrees Fahrenheit.  

How do I get around town?

The main way to get around Brookline is to walk. People that live in Brookline generally get to work by taking the MBTA Green Line light rail (train). Bus routes are also available. Driving your car is not recommended, because there is a 2-hour parking limit on streets. 

What is the Brookline commute like?

Commuting from Brookline to Boston doesn't have to be a headache for you. Just jump on the Green line and it will only take you 10-15 minutes to get you there.

The birthplace of John F. Kennedy and Barbara Walters, Conan O'Brien also calls Brookline his home. What is so great about Brookline? Turns out a lot. This upscale community features 25 distinct neighborhoods with classic homes and buildings. Prospective students get to choose from nine different prestigious college campuses such as Newbury College and Pine Manor College. The main appeal about Brookline is that people that live here, quite frankly are passionate about living here, and it shows. 

What Brookline landmarks should I see?

Famous landmarks in Brookline include the birthplace of John F. Kennedy. They allow you to take a tour of the home that is guided by a park ranger. Car lovers enjoy visiting the Larz Anderson Auto Museum. It contains the oldest car collection in the entire country. Another mentionable location is the Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site. Olmsted is the founder of American landscape architecture, and you can tour his grounds and walk around his personal office. 

What is there to do around Brookline?

Residents and visitors alike agree that the best thing to do in Brookline is to go and visit the visually stunning Coolidge Corner Theater. Originally built as a church in 1906, it was transformed into an Art Deco movie theater in 1933. Locals also recommend visiting one of their many great places to eat that include Paris Creperie, Otto Pizza and the Regal Beagle.

When it comes to annual festivals, Boston is chock-full of them! What could be better than being so close to the Boston St. Patrick's Day Parade in March? Are you an athlete? Would you enjoy running in the Boston Marathon perhaps? Need I even go further? A myriad of parades and festivals await your arrival in the Boston area!

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

As far as possible vacationing fun goes, look no further than Boston. There is so much fun to be had in Boston. Why not take the kids to Legoland Discovery Center? You could always go to the New England Aquarium with the Imax Theater. Perhaps your taste runs more toward visiting the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum?
