Concord Overview

Living in Concord, NH can provide you with everything from historical tours to high-end shopping opportunities. As the capital of New Hampshire, Concord has a lot to offer. Choosing Concord apartments gives you the chance to explore the city and surrounding areas, without worrying about things like home maintenance. The breathtaking snow in the winter, and long, warm days in the summer are both just right for experiences and adventures of all kinds.

What is the history of Concord?

Concord was officially founded in 1765 under that name. But before that it had other names, including Penacook and Rumford. Native Americans settled the Concord area thousands of years in the past, where they fished for food and used the river as a transportation route. They also used the surrounding farmland to grow crops. It grew rapidly during the 18th Century, and became the state Capitol due to geographic convenience. Today it houses many types of industries.

How is the weather in Concord?

The weather is cold and snowy throughout the winter months, and the summer months are very warm and often humid. Fall and spring are brief seasons. Snow cover is common during the winter, with light to moderate snowfall amounts and temperatures cold enough to keep the snow from melting. In summer, thunderstorms can be expected on hot days and during changing weather patterns. Apartments in Concord can come with snow removal, making them a convenient option year-round.

How do I get around town?

It's much easier to get around the Concord area if you have a car. But there are three local bus routes in the city, and a downtown area that's very walkable when the weather is good. Greyhound and Concord Coach Lines also operate from the transit center, with service to Boston and a few other cities. Amtrak doesn't offer passenger rail service to Concord, although there is a plan to offer that in the future. The nearest airport for commercial aviation options is Boston.

What is the Concord commute like?

Interstate 93 and Interstate 89 are the major highways in Concord. They join slightly south of the city limits and link the city to places like Boston, Manchester, Lebanon, and the state of Vermont. Routes 3, 4, and 202 also link Concord to many other places, and can all be accessed from I-93 or I-89. Traffic in Concord is relatively mild, as a population under 45,000 reduces the risk of significant traffic jams and commuting times.

What are the local media outlets?

There are two daily and two weekly newspapers operating in Concord. These are The Concord Monitor, The NH Patch, The Concord Insider, and The Hippo. Six radio stations also operate from the city, including New Hampshire Public Radio. A public-access TV station and WPXG-TV are both based in Concord, which is also served by radio and TV stations from the Manchester area.

Why live in Concord, NH?

Concord is an excellent place to live and work. Anyone who enjoys American history, quality architecture, and the beauty of the natural surroundings will really find the area to their liking. But Concord is much more than history. It's a Capitol city with pride and a focus on building a better future. You can find everything from educational opportunities to fine dining, shopping, nightlight, and museums, all within the city and surrounding area.

What Concord landmarks should I see?

The New Hampshire State House is a great Concord landmark to visit. The Eagle Hotel is just across the street, and has been a landmark since 1827, when it first opened. Several presidents and other notable figures have stayed at the hotel. It's no longer used as a hotel, but still worth seeing. Beaver Meadow Golf Course and the New Hampshire Historical Society are also worth exploring. The University of New Hampshire School of Law is also located in the city.

What is there to do around Concord?

If you're considering Concord apartments for your new living adventure, knowing what to do in the area can help you make a decision. Fortunately, there are plenty of great things to do right in the city. Boston's also close by, so heading there for a weekend of dining and shopping can also be a fun experience. In Concord, you can check out the Contra Costa Canal Trail, Pixieland Amusement Park, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, Markham Nature Park and Arboretum, Sunvalley Shopping Center, and much more.

Any annual festivals or Concord events to know?

The Somewhat North of Boston (SNOB) Film Festival happens every year in Concord. The Annual Blues Bash happens in February, as does the Alton Bay Winter Carnival. The Capital Arts Fest has been in Concord for more than five years now, and the Maple Express and Snowflake Festival are sure to please. The Market Days Festival happens in June, and offers a three-day street fair with food, vendors, and live entertainment. There's always something to do, see, and enjoy in the Concord area.

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

Visiting the coast is without a doubt the biggest vacation opportunity and destination for people who live in the Concord area. There are motels, vacation cottages, and other lodging opportunities there, along with seaside attractions, shopping, and dining. Another popular choice is Boston and its surrounding area, with the big-city feel a lot of people want to experience for a few days before returning home to a quieter, slower pace of life and their Concord apartments.

Where is the best place to move in Concord?

The best neighborhoods for apartments in Concord are near the law school, downtown, and in the South End, especially for people who want to be close to shopping, dining, nightlife, and more. Concord Heights is also popular, but doesn't offer as much walkability as some of the other neighborhoods provide.
