"A beautiful campus on the elevated side of the Potomac River, Georgetown University is the oldest Catholic and Jesuit university in the country, and is open to all who wish to pursue excellence in higher education. Georgetown University offers degrees in a wide variety of undergraduate programs, as well as an opportunity for students to design their own individual degree plans. The university also has a strong graduate program, as well as a school of medicine and a school of law. In Washington DC, a city where history comes alive as it happens as we watch, there are plenty of opportunities for students to live and learn the real world of politics. Many student organizations exist for participation in campus activities, including over 170 student organizations. A self-described ""student-centered research university,"" Georgetown is considered by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education to have very high research activity. To assist with all this research are libraries holding nearly two and a half million items. Athletics is successful at Georgetown, with over 90 percent of its student athletes graduating and it was voted one of the top 20 in the nation by US News and World Report magazine recently. With 27 varsity teams in the NCAA Division I, the ""Hoyas"" are well accomplished in their excellent basketball team, lacrosse and rowing teams. In addition, 20 club sport teams exist. If you'd prefer to live on campus, instead of an apartment, there are several dorms to choose from. And to find out about all the campus activities, just check out one of the many media outlets on campus. With a twice-weekly newspaper, a weekly newsmagazine and a monthly magazine in print, you can be entertained and informed. Also avaialble is an internet-based humor magazine, a radio station and a television station. Located in Georgetown, the university is worth checking out. Famous alums from Georgetown University include former President Bill Clinton and currently five US Senators and 16 US Representatives, as well as Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, Antonin Scalia."
