Prior to the arrival of European settlers, this area was inhabited by Native Americans. In 1784, Hermosa Beach was included in the Spanish land grant. It would later become part of a 10-mile area of oceanfront for Rancho Sausal Redondo. Before it was developed, this area was known for its warm weather, Rolling Hills, and plenty of barley. Eventually, it was used as farmland. Sheep were the main animals found in this location. The area was sparsely populated until the arrival of the railroad. The Los Angeles Pacific Railway was the first trolley serviceáthis part of the country. Now, this city is known for its warm weather, beautiful beaches, and friendly people.á
