So you're finally settled in to your new apartment, and everything is just the way you want it. You've even purchased some items previously lacking from past dwellings, such as bath towels and window blinds, all in an attempt to give yourself added ammunition for the big day - your parent's first visit. Now that it's finally arrived, you give them the tour. They seem impressed, all is going well, you just need that final proverbial cherry on top to make it a perfect visit - a family dinner. Nothing too fancy, but definitely not pizza or burgers. Where to go? Head to the Rainbow Lodge and knock the rest of the visit out of the park. When they say 'lodge' they mean it. Set in a century-old log cabin, the Rainbow offers country-charm set in the center of big city Houston. Panoramic views abound, including a running brook and citrus garden grove, while other 'lodge-y' highlights (fireplace, animal heads on the walls) complete the environment. And what better way to further impress mom and dad than by ordering a wild game mixed grill, comprised of venison, duck and wild boar chop? Grilled buffalo steaks and freshly caught Gulf fish round out the eclectic menu, with a large assortment of salads and lighter fare available as well. And did we mention the wine selection? The Rainbow has been awarded the Award of Excellence by Wine Spectator Magazine for its stocked and varied cellar, so be prepared to get adventurous with the grape. Top it all off with a fresh lemon sorbet and you will surely be the apple of your parent's eye.
