John Haywood built his family home in 1799 while he serving as the states first elected treasurer. It remained a family home until 1977 when it became a historical landmark. It is a fascinating place to visit for any Raleigh apartment dweller who is interested in the history of the city and the entire state. Haywood Hall is the oldest house in the entire Raleigh city limits. Raleigh apartment residents can spend hours perusing the house with its original furnishings, priceless family portraits and permanent collection of dolls that will delight and charm you.
