Sunny Isles Beach Overview

Sunny Isles Beach, FL is a gorgeous community that is located just northwest of downtown Miami. This community is a thin land bridge that boasts the expansive Atlantic Ocean directly to its east and the Intracoastal Waterway to the west. This makes this community big amidst boaters and beach-goers, but also those who work and enjoy the cultural amenities of downtown Miami. Of course, the apartments in Sunny Isles Beach, FL also have plenty to offer all on their own. Continue reading to learn more.á

What is the history of Sunny Isles Beach?

Comparative to most places in the United States, the South Florida area in which Sunny Isles Beach exists has been an incredibly recent development. Which is understandable as, before air conditioning, much of Florida was considered too miserably hot for most of the population. But once homes and businesses started incorporating that cold indoor air, South Florida neighborhoods started to boom. Sunny Isles Beach likewise started to see some significant development during the 1950s and 60s as a sort of resort area. Then, in the early 1980s, redevelopment began and this line of land was turned into more of a residential area with gorgeous single-family homes, apartments, and high-rise condominiums.á

How is the weather in Sunny Isles Beach?

Homes and apartments in Sunny Isles Beach, FL experience what is called a tropical monsoon climate. This means that there typically is a tropical or rainy season which runs from May to around October. During these months, it is common for it to be warm and sunny most of the day with an afternoon shower or thunderstorm. Some weeks may see such thunderstorms nearly every day. During the winter months, November through April, rain is rare and the climate is marked by a much lower humidity.

How do I get around town?

Many who live in Sunny Isles Beach apartments choose to do so without a car. That's because as part of the greater Miami area, it easy to live without one. Miami has one of the largest mass transit systems in the state as it includes the Metrorail, Paratransit, Metromover, and Metrobus systems. Furthermore, walking and biking up and down this strip of land is both effective and enjoyable. The greater metropolitan area even has a bike-sharing program called DecoBike for those who want a quick ride but don't want to invest in their own bicycle.á

What is the Sunny Isles Beach commute like?

Sunny Isles Beach, FL is a fantastic place to live, but it doesn't have so much in way of work opportunities. This is, after all, a very thin stretch of land that is surrounded by water on two sides. Instead, most people who live in apartments in Sunny Isles Beach, FL opt to work somewhere in the greater Miami area, such as downtown Miami or nearby Hollywood or Fort Lauderdale. The bad news is that driving a car in about this area can get frustrating during high-traffic hours. The good news, as noted above, is that this area has fantastic public transit options.á

What are the local media outlets?

Again, Sunny Isles Beach, FL itself is a small residential community. It benefits from a lot of things, such as ready beach access, but one thing it doesn't have in ready supply is its own media outlets. That said, residents here get to enjoy the long and varied list of media outlets coming out of the greater Miami area. And, because Miami is one of the most culturally and racially diverse cities in the country, there really is something for everyone here.á

Why live in Sunny Isles Beach, FL?

The number one reason why someone should choose to live in Sunny Isles Beach apartments is because they love the beach life. You really cannot get more of the sand and sun than you can in this community. You have the Atlantic Ocean to the east and just a couple of blocks to the east, there is the Intracoastal Waterway and Dumfoundling Bay. The second best reason to live in Sunny Isles Beach, FL is because you want fast access to all the other great things the Miami area has to offer, including great food, great entertainment, and great community.á

What Sunny Isles Beach landmarks should I see?

Well, again, the beach here is a pretty big one. But one of the more interesting landmarks lies along the southern border of Sunny Isles Beach. At that southern border is Haulover Park and Haulover Beach. This beach is one of the few clothing-optional beaches in the state with gorgeous vistas both of the ocean and the dunes and trees across the Intracoastal. There's also a dog beach in this park, a big checkmark for Sunny Isles Beach pet owners. While this is the biggest park in the area, it isn't the only. Residents here have several great small parks to enjoy when they aren't out on the beaches.á

What is there to do around Sunny Isles Beach?

Swimming, surfing, sun bathing, and other beach activities are among the top activities people enjoy when living in Sunny Isles Beach. But, of course, these aren't the only activities available. Those who love shopping and dining experiences need only to go over the William Lehman Causeway to the Aventura Mall and its surrounding shopping districts. This mall boasts popular big brands like Bloomingdale's and The Cheesecake Factory as well as plenty of local small businesses. There is also a great number of upscale bars and entertainment venues for residents to take advantage of.

Any annual festivals or Sunny Isles Beach events to know?

Sunny Isles Beach, FL is a bit too small of a community to have a long list of its own big annual festivals, but residents who live in apartments here do have easy access to the very long list of festivals and events that are thrown by Miami proper. These annual festivities include big art events like ArtBasel which draws artists from around the world. During February, there is the South Beach Wine & Food Festival that is widely regarded as among the most revered culinary events in the country.á

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

Miami, Miami, MIAMI! This is a city and a beachfront that people absolutely love. Some people travel from the other side of the globe to experience it, others make it an annual vacation destination. And why not? There's plenty here to draw people in, and if you tire of Miami destinations, then you'll have plenty of other nearby vacation opportunities to choose from. Key West is only a couple of hours south, even closer is the Everglades National Park. Really want to get away but not have to drive? Book a weekend cruise from the Bahamas and hop on the ship just minutes from your front door.á

Where is the best place to move in Sunny Isles Beach?

Which condominiums or apartments in Sunny Isles Beach, FL you choose will likely depend first on budget and second on what you want to be close to. The beach side of this community is going to be more expensive overall while those apartments that face the bay and the Intracoastal Waterway can be had for more affordable rates. Another big thing to consider is whether you want to be closer to the shopping districts and causeway out of the community -- which is at the center of Sunny Isles Beach, or if you want to be closer to the parks and nature of Haulover Park to the south.á
