light, tall ceilings, wood floors and plenty of closet space (well maybe not for some of us). I like an apartment that has room to spread out and has multiple spots to hand out in. I also like it to have character and little oddities that you wouldn't find in a cookie-cutter, normal apartment. However, there is a fine balance between an apartment with character with a cozy charm, and an apartment that simply needs to be updated. What I have found helpful to balance to balance out those parts that simply need updating is to try to decorate those areas (kitchen/bathroom) with things that are similarly out of date. Maybe something different I found at a vintage store or flea market that adds to the character of the old building. I find that if I try to add modern-looking, fancy things to those areas, they just end up highlighting the out-of-date-ness of the room and making it stand out even more.
