The Worst Place I've Ever Lived
September 17, 2019I signed a yearlong lease here in April of 2019. Two weeks in, I wanted out. My partner and I lived in a lower unit, and the neighbors above us made our lives absolutely horrible for 5 months. We guessed that there were at least seven kids living upstairs, and at least two adults. The children ran across the floor all day, and into the night. They kept us up past 10 EVERY night, and at least 3 times a week, past 12am or 1am. It was just continuous slams and stomping all over the floor. ...Sometimes the kids would be playing and slamming on the floor at 11:30 or midnight. The daytime wasn't any better. The kids would run around, jump on the floor, slam toys, and scream and cry for hours on end. Two weeks into our lease, we met with the Regional Manager about this issue. He told us that upon investigation, the renters above us were housing too many people, and that they were going to be evicted. Several weeks passed with no change. We checked in via email and I even texted with the Regional manager several times. Mostly he didn't respond. Eventually, our emails about the noise issues went completely ignored for two months straight. We didn't want to terminate early. Their fee was TWO full months rent plus a 30 day notice. We tried to hold out as long as we could, but it was impossible to live there. I wasn't getting any sleep, I was anxious, my partner and I fought more often than we ever had before about the noise, and what to do about it. Still we heard nothing from the landlord, or the Regional Manager about getting this problem solved. We never again heard anything about the eviction of these tenants who illegally had too many people living in their unit. We never heard back from anyone PERIOD after the first two months. We finally gave in, and bought our way out of the lease 7 months early. TL;DR version: I harbor a lot of anger and resentment against this property management company. We were taken advantage of, and they made A LOT of money off of our suffering. You might think you want to live here, but there are so many similarly well priced places in Los Angeles that are in better areas, and might have property managers that actually care about their tenants.
