The Russell, beautiful community. The neighbors are nice and the staff is very professional and helpful. We love walking on the small trails around the area, we’re walking distance to Hillsdale mall, wholes food and more.

Terrible management, stay away

We picked this building because of its amenities, which were still open with limited capacity, 1 household reservation at a time during COVID when we moved in. Since December, they decided that all amenities will be shut, including outdoor amenities which under state regulations are not required to be closed and could continue to operate with a 1 household at a time system with low risks to the community. However, management decided that shutting everything was a good idea and despite multiple ...
requests to explain why outdoor public pools are open and a community, 1-household-at-a-time pool needs to be closed, there has been no actions to resolve. If we paid this huge price to live in a community with amenities, and management decided to close them beyond what is required by state or county regulations, a deduction in rent at least should be given but no. Maintenance staff is great, location is good and those get the one star. Management is unhelpful and like many others have mentioned, leaves a lot to be desired. Update on move-out: I cannot give a worse rating to this place. Upon move out, not only did the guy who checked our apartment and the manager say different things about the cost of paint job, and I had to reconcile after numerous emails before they finally reduced the crazy painting fees they wanted to charge for painting extremely clean walls, they also misrepresented facts and refuse to let me pay the balance online - insisting that I need to physically deliver them a check and that it shouldn’t be so difficult for me to do just that. I am so glad we no longer have to deal with this management. The apartment location is wonderful but dealing with these people is just extremely unpleasant. Avoid at all cost.

Having lived in many apartment communities around the SF Bay Area, The Russell is the place I've been happiest to call home. The location is stellar, it's really hard to emphasize that enough. I believe this is the best apartment location in terms of access to places you'd want to go, outside the SF city limits. And importantly, this is without giving up amenities/service/staff that regularly exceed my expectations.

We were looking for a place to settle outside of the city, and we were so pleased to find The Russell. It's the perfect mix of urban and homey, nicely nestled in the Bay Meadows community with beautiful parks and trails, and located near Trader Joes, a Blue Bottle, the Hillsdale Mall, train, and more.
