Belleville Overview

Belleville, IL is a medium-sized city located in Southern Illinois. The nearest big city isn’t Chicago, but rather St. Louis, Missouri, which is only a 30-minute drive away. Many people commute to work there, but love the small town feel of Belleville that’s been around since 1814. A historically beautiful city that is the perfect spot to find your ideal Belleville apartments.

What is the history of Belleville?

Founded in 1814, Belleville was named by George Blair who basically created the center of town by donating some of his land. The reason that Mr. Blair named it “Belleville” is because the word means “beautiful city” in French. It became an official city in 1850.

How is the weather in Belleville?

The weather around all Belleville apartments is typically very seasonal following the weather trends of any Midwestern city. The summers are hot and humid, while the fall brings cooler temperatures when the leaves change. You can expect snowy conditions from November to March each year.

How do I get around town?

It’s best to have a car to get around, especially if you plan on commuting to St. Louis for work from one of the beautiful Belleville apartments. As part of St. Clair County, there is a public transit system that includes a MetroBus and MetroLink trains. It's fairly inexpensive to ride and you can even bring your bike on board. The nearest airport, the MidAmerica St. Louis Airport, is only 14 miles away from Belleville.

What is the Belleville commute like?

The traffic situation going into St. Louis isn’t that bad. The drive itself is only 30 minutes without traffic. There are two different main routes to take, including 161 W or 15 W. Getting around Belleville itself isn’t hard considering that all the major Illinois state highways run through it.

What are the local media outlets?
