Explore Charlotte
If you've just unpacked in your Charlotte area apartment and you're new to North Carolina, one of the best ways to immerse yourself in Charlotte's culture is to sample some of the many authentic diners serving up some good ol' fashioned southern fare. Dish, located on Thomas Ave, is a welcoming joint with grub that makes you feel right at home. No matter what entrée you order here, you're going to get a side of biscuits and a deviled egg, but the biggest draw here is the mouth-watering chocolate pecan pie. Everything on the menu is fairly low-cost, with offerings including blackened chicken sandwich, meatloaf and shrimp and grits, but veggie apartment-ites have options, too. The diner also serves beer. While this may sound like your average greasy spoon, it's the decorative art and funky-colored décor that nicely offsets the down-to-earth menu and gives you a unique dining experience. The wait staff are friendly, but don't really have time for indecisive types, so take your time before you order. If you stop by in the summer, they set up the outdoor patio as a bistro-style seating area. All in all, Dish is a familiar but hip place to eat, with large portions of comfort food amid an eclectic mix of laid-back clientele.
