Ready to learn something new about the City of Trees? Well, if you are an outdoorsy, active, spiritual and can-do type of person, you are going to love calling Charlotte your new home. With beautiful weather all year round, low cost of living, excellent health care, beautiful homes, rich culture and great southern hospitality, Charlotte is one of the best cities to live in especially if you have a young family.

What is the history of Charlotte?

Unknown to many, Charlotte has a rich history that is centered on the pride of Irish-Scott settlers and discovery of gold. Founded in 1768 and named after Queen Charlotte, the wife of King George 111 of England, the Queen City was built at the crossroads of two Native American roads. The intersection of these two roads is today referred to as the heart of Charlotte – Trade and Tryon. In 1779, a 17-pound gold nugget was discovered in Charlotte, drawing in a lot of immigrants in what will always be remembered as America’s first gold rush however the rush was short-lived and most immigrants who had come to strike it rich moved to California. Cotton and tobacco farming were the primary source of revenue before the civil war and after the war, textile industries came to life with Charlotte becoming a major cotton processing center and rail hub. As a result of both the economic and railroad success, the queen city became North Carolina’s biggest City. Businesses continued flocking to Charlotte with the banking sector going into overdrive in the 1970s and 1980s under the leadership of Hugh McColl who is renowned for transforming North Carolina national bank to the present day Bank of America and ad queen city to rank as the second-largest banking center after new York city
