There are few places that really mix culture and education without presumptuous and pretentious. The Nelson Atkins Museum of Art manages to do just that. There is a certain air of culture and heritage through out the halls but it is subtly mixed with easy to learn lessons in art history. The very building itself is a landmark to locals that serves as a reminder of the towns beginning years. There are almost 35,000 pieces of art in the building. You'll see ancient Chinese ceramic pieces and contemporary statuettes. There is a wide range of subjects and topics covered. The artists cover the world and are all here for you to experience. Besides the memorable art experience you will find two impeccable restaurants here as well as a first rate gift shop. Rozzelle Court Restaurant will charm you with it's old world Italian, open-air ambiance. Enjoy the buffet filled with salads, main dishes and every dessert under the sun. Enjoy a visit to the Cafe and be tempted by all the delectable desserts and amazed by the glittering glass enclosure. Native KC'ers know and love the place for its diversity and versatility.
