It's great to have a bar to hang out in that feels just like you're just hanging out in your apartment, so with its friendly vibe and casual setting (including candles, CD-changers instead of DJs, deep red colour schemes and comfy couches), Purdy Lounge is worth a stop, even though it's slightly off the beaten path. Located on Sunset Harbor Drive, the bar has been voted no 3 in the World's Best Bars List, but the focus is more on the atmosphere than the decor. Here, bartenders are efficient, but act more like a drink-serving best friend, remembering favourite orders for regulars and even dropping a few shots on the house. The bar is open until 5am nightly, and features some of the best margaritas in the city. Drinks on the whole are fairly cheap, with wines starting from $6 a glass - perfect for the end-of-the-month apartment-ite with a low cash flow before rent is due. Tip: go there on early weekday evenings for just the one drink or to start the night. It's less crowded, and you can just sit, relax and play pool or one of the many kitschy board games on offer. Mondays and Tuesdays feature live music, which offers a welcome change from the dressed-to-impress Friday night crowds.
