Find out more about why so many people are checking out homes for rent in Minneapolis.
What is the history of Minneapolis?
Minneapolis rose to fame in the 1800s thanks to the scenic Falls of St. Anthony. Many tourists came to the region to see the falls. But others came here to settle down, build homes, and find employment in the lumber industry. Minneapolis officially incorporated as a city in 1867. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, the city became a leader in flour production. Home of the Pillsbury Doughboy, Betty Crocker, and Gold Medal Flour, Minneapolis became a thriving city throughout the 1900s and 2000s. And it continues to draw more and more residents today!

But you also get mild spring and fall temperatures. Lows are a bit chilly in the 40s. Daytime temps typically warm up to the 50s and 60s. During summer, highs can climb to the low 80s. And lows are usually in the 60s, making for pleasant evenings and nights. What about rain and snow? Winters have about a foot of snow on average. Late spring and summer tend to be the rainiest times. Or you can ride your bike or scooter around the downtown area in warmer weather. Coming into downtown from the suburbs? Cars are the easiest way to get around, and you’ll find lots of parking. Traveling out of town? You can get to the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport via Metro Transit.

Minneapolis, MN Area Reviews
Stephanie • 4+ years in Minneapolis
February 25, 2025A dream city for outdoorsy types who crave an urban experience...there's nothing like a day at the lakes or hitting up the Grand Rounds. Add amazing theater (like the Guthre) and restaurants and you have the perfect urban (but not too urban) lifestyle. The cost of living is going up but still pretty reasonable compared to most cities of a similar size and with similar cultural opportunities.
