Located just nine miles from the hub of Hartford, New Britain is a working class city full of blue collar pride and plenty of worldly amenities. With a population of over 70K and a sound economic base, this Connecticut locale is often affectionately referred to as 'Hardware City', thanks to the home base of operations for Black and Decker.
Chartered in 1871, New Britain took its name in homage to England, and through the years has established itself as a popular region for Polish-American citizens. A number of hardware titans make their home in the city, including Corbin Locks, and New Britain is the birthplace of the first wire coat hanger. In addition to its proud history of manufacturing, the city is home to a number of medical industries, including the Hospital of Central Connecticut.
Summers can be hot in the region, with snow commonplace in the winter and spring known for being the rainy season. Autumn nights are highlighted by crisp, cooler air and plenty of seasonal leaf colorings.
