Living in a New Orleans apartment has its advantages, and one is them is that you get free admission to the renowned New Orleans Museum of Art with proper Louisiana ID. Built in 1910 by a generous benefactor, Issac Delgado, the Museum ranks in the top 25 percent of the nation's largest and most significant museums, and is one of the premier art museum in the Gulf South region. The original building is a stunning piece of architecture, with romanesque columns and beautiful landscaping. A $200 million value is placed on the collection of over 40,000 objects in 46 galleries at NOMA. Some of the featured galleries include European painting and sculpture from the 16th through 20th centuries; American painting and sculpture from the 18th and 19th centuries; European and American prints and drawings; Asian, African, Oceanic, Pre-Columbian, and Native American art; photography; and European and American decorative arts. NOMA's private collection includes works by masters of the School of Paris with paintings and sculptures by Picasso, Degas, Braque, Dufy and Miro, among others. Special exhibits that have attracted thousands include works from Peter Carl Fabergé and the Latin American Colonial collection. An awesome collection of 50 modern and contemporary sculptures is presented in NOMA's Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden. It is an incredible, five-acre natural setting with beauty at every turn. The garden has become the latest cultural destination for locals and a must-see for visitors to the Crescent City. Many international exhibits have been displayed at the museum including Treasures of Ancient Egypt, The Treasures of Tutankhamun, and Monet collection.
