Explore Solana Beach
Thirty three years of offering live music near the beach makes Belly Up Tavern an internationally acclaimed venue noted as "one of the hottest clubs on the west coast" by Rolling Stone magazine. With a classy, Southern California feel, Belly Up provides excellent acoustics in the WWII-era style building on the Solana Beach strip. When entering, you are greeted by a huge shark that protects the bartender (hanging over his head) while he serves those willing to get out of their apartment for an evening of fun. While such acts as George Clinton, The Fugees, Etta James and the Cowboy Junkies have played here, be aware that you'll need to book your tickets in advance to get a seat at the more well-known acts. Check in advance even for some that aren't necessarily well-known, except by you and other locals, and getting to the top quickly. The music fans at Belly Up have a huge dance floor in front of the stage to play, and sitting benches to the side, or raised sloping seats at the back to choose from, all with excellent auditory and visual awareness. Just a block away from Pacific Coast Highway, and less than a mile from the I-5, Belly Up is easy to find. It's located in the Solana Beach design district on S. Cedros, so arrive early to do some shopping, or hang out on the beach at Fletcher Cove Beach Park. If your apartment is close to a Coaster stop, even better. Belly Up Tavern is just a block and a half away from the Solana Beach Coaster station. Next door to Belly Up Tavern is Wild Note Cafe!, a part of the tavern and restaurant package. Open before and after the show, the bistro serves tasty sandwiches and fries, soups and salads early and late.
