Trying to get in

I gave a $250 deposit on Apt. 249 (Eisenhower Premium - two bedrooms). After reviewing the "Residency Agreement' I was given at the end of April, I had questions. Now I am told that if the lease is not signed before the end of May, I will forfeit my deposit; I am also told that the apartment I saw is the only two-bedroom apartment available. Yet, I have not even seen the lease I am expected to sign. Apparently, I was told on May 22, the US Post Office might not deliver it on time. It was ...
suggested that my son (who lives in Ypsilanti) should pick it up and bring it to me (in Canton); I agree that this would have been possible BUT why would my son (who has a full-time job) do Brookhaven's job for them. All this made me wonder whether the apartment (the only one available, I was told) was really available 'for rent'. Checking online, I found that it is. I am still interested in renting the apartment I was shown at the end of April, but I will not sign a lease I have neither seen nor read yet. If I believe what I was told (in an e-mail) my failure to sign that lease means that I will forfeit my $450 deposit. Perhaps that was a mistake. However, if you plan to live at Brookhaven Manor, be warned and make sure you read everything BEFORE giving a deposit.
