Poor management and service

Management is a mess and service has been terrible. The office is filled with new people who not only don’t know anything, but tell me wrong information. They are not to be trusted. They are forcing renovations on residents (cosmetic only), but then blame issues on the supply chain and office turnover. However, neither of those excuse them not cleaning up after the work despite me talking to them 3 days in row about it and I still ended up having to do it myself. They are literally making me pay ...
for their awful management. If there are so many problems they could push the work, but they don’t care. All they want is to be able to extract more rent money from me. They do not respect my apartment, time, money, or needs (not that I’m surprised).

The office management is nice to you when you first lease your apartment but then they disregard any concerns you bring up and ignore your emails or belittle you/be rude to you if you talk to them about any issue in the community. They do not make you feel like you are welcome or safe here. They seem to only want your money but do not actually care about you or your family, and that this is your home as well. Also, the property is poor kept as they sharpie with black markers mailbox letters ...
rather than replacing them and do not replace broken lights or rusted stairways. I hope that staff in the future treat everyone living in this community with true respect and dignity and not just artificial insincere reply.

I am 84 elderly widow living here at the Elms for the past year and half. I truly believe I made the right decision when I moved here I feel very well taken care of and safe. Outstanding value and great location

You can't beat the location, very convenient! The apartments are well laid out with large bedrooms that are basically dual master. Very good value for the price. I have had pleasant experiences with the staff as well. Being able to walk to ChickFila has been both amazing and terrifying given how much I love their nuggets too haha.

I have been living here for 8 years and I think it’s great. It’s convenient to everything stores, restaurants and Costco. I like all the events the office have even if I can’t go to all of them. My neighbors are so friendly they even helped me move my mattress. Nice location and great schools.

Be aware of hidden fees

We just moved in and we chose Elms because it is located in a nice area, and that is probably the only reason. There are a lot of nonrefundable and monthly fees that they did not mention until you filed the application, especially the one-time nonrefundable $300 amenity fee and $200 pet fee, which I did not see at other apartments. Also, they gave specials to their vacant units, but no special at all for other new renters. For example, a unit is available today and if you want that one, you can ...
get one month free. But if a same-type unit is not vacant yet and will be available 15 days later and you booked that one, you get nothing.

My family and I moved into this apartment over six years ago, thinking we would only be here for a year or two and than buy a house. Close to 7 years later we are still here, and it is because we love where we live. We have lived in other apartment complexes, but nothing compares to MontJoy in Ellicott City. The front office staff truly care about the community and their tenants. They perform preventative maintenance checks to be pro-active. Each season they host events to bring neighbors ...
together to meet one another. a few examples are their holiday party at Union Jacks, and the summer pool party with games, food and prizes. The staff even hand out early morning breakfast a few times during the fall on your way out of the parking lot wishing you a great day. This is a great place for children of all ages. There are large grass areas for kids to play safely outside and when it rains a place for them to stand near the front office to stay out of the rain while waiting for their school bus. This apartment home has something for everyone; ramp accessible, a free fitness center, two beautiful pools with a grill free for all to use and a location perfect for travels to Baltimore and DC.

The Elms at Montjoy are in a great location. Easy to get to all the major highways. The apartments are well maintained, as well as the property itself. All of the other residents that I have met all seem friendly and professional. Compared to the other apartments I looked at in the Columbia/Ellicott City area I would say this complex is the best. Also the schools in this area are top rated.
