A great place to call home
February 8, 2016My husband and I lived at Riverwood from 08/2010 until 06/2014. Overall the experience was great and we miss living at this cozy complex. We were in a newly updated 2 bedroom corner unit that overlooked the school and parking lot. Noise: Aside from the occasional argument or loud music from a neighbor which would be faintly audible, things were silent in your own unit. The majority of the noise came from the neighboring elementary school. Their buzzer/loud speaker was audible even with our ...windows closed, and throughout the school year you'd hear it multiple times a day. There is also a basketball court in the same school yard, and the adolescents who gather there after school can get rowdy when unsupervised, and you'll get an ear-full of all the boisterous profanities a 13-year-old can conjure up to impress their peers. For any unit not facing the school this was never any concern as they were out of ear-shot, but for us it was a common annoyance. Parking: There was assigned parking for 1 vehicle, and garages in the back. We never had any issues with security or anyone trying to break into our garage. When there was a heavy snowfall the caretaker would call everyone to notify them to move your vehicle so the plow could quick come through, but if you were unable to move your car there was no threat to have it towed or anything ridiculous like that. Staff: 24 hour notice was always given before our unit was entered by any of the staff, and they were always courteous while in our home. Brian, the landlord, was friendly and respectful and as long as you were a good tenant he stayed out of your business and treated you professionally. Pam, the caretaker who lived in the neighboring building to ours, was simply amazing. She keeps the grounds and building looking superb, she knows all of the residents and will happily chat with you if you catch her gardening or cleaning. The maintenance crew knew what they were doing and were quick to resolve issues, of which we had very few in 4 years. Overall: The unit was spacious and had new appliances. We liked the mirror closet doors, and the amount of storage available. Washers/dryers were coin operated and generally the laundry room was empty if you avoided trying to do your laundry during evenings when everyone was home. The backyard is basically Mississippi River, and there is a path out back to walk through the woods and along the river which was simply amazing. For the price, this place is a hidden gem.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
