People who live in Grand Rounds apartments have over 50 miles of roadways, including bike and pedestrian trails, with traffic speed at a leisurely 25 miles per hour. Cross country skiing is also encouraged here in the winter. Begun as a preservation effort in the 1930s to preserve the intrinsic resources of Minneapolis, it now offers great enjoyment to Grand Rounds apartment residents. Regarded as one of America's most important scenic urban roadways, it was designated a national byway in 1998. Grand Rounds provides kiosks and interpretive sites for discovery about the area, and its designation from a rural byway. Many of the informational sites have been recently refurbished.
