You haven't been to a dive bar from your Baltimore apartment until you've been to Leadbetters Tavern. Of course, for it to be mentioned here means that it can't be too "divey" or off limits. No, Leadbetters is a place to go to hang out with friends or soon to be friends in a comfortable environment that's open to partying. It's quaint, it's comfortable and welcoming. The music is the reason for much of the attraction of Leadbetters. With many local bands, it's a great place for the small time musicians to get their start. Classic rock and roll or rock-a-billy, modern rock, blues and folk music can all be heard here in an acoustic environment that just feels good. You never have to go a night in your Baltimore apartment without hearing live music. The tavern has live music seven days and nights a week, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and 9:30 pm to 1:30 am. Some of the often playing bands include Tim Fields, Kerrie Geil and Billie Thomson. Other notable bands include The Ugly Babysitters, the Channel Cats, and the Bad Influence Band. Named after Huddie Ledbetter, better known as Leadbelly, the tavern pays tribute to his exceptional musical style and his capacity to get out of jail with a song. He helped inspire the folk and blues revivals of the fifties and sixties with his recordings made from the mid thirties through the forties. He actually did get released from prison twice, once in 1925 when he was pardoned by Texas governor Pat Neff, and again in 1934 by Louisiana governor O.K. Allen. Boy, how times have changed. Open seven days a week for those partying Baltimore apartment-ites, the tavern is open 2 pm to 2 am Monday through Friday, and noon to 2 am on Saturday and Sunday. Happy hour is daily until 9:00 p.m. with draft pints at $2.75, and $2.75 well drinks. Leadbetters is in the Wi-Fi zone, with free internet browsing for patrons.
