If you’re looking for a suburb that’s close to Houston and offers easy to access to everything the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown Metro area has to offer, Channelview is the place for you. Located just 15 miles east of Houston, this suburb is home to approximately 40,000 people. In Channelview, you’ll be close to a vibrant nightlife, sporting events and other entertainment options.

What is the history of Channelview?

In 1836, a ragtag group of Texans defeated the Mexican army and gained Texas its independence in the Battle of San Jacinto. This battle took place just across the channel from Channelview and many of the soldiers who fought in the battle settled in the area. Built on the northeastern curve of the Houston Ship Channel (part of the Port of Houston), Channelview benefited from the oil and shipping trades. Its first significant period of growth occurred in 1929 and it has continued to experience large periods of growth ever since.

How is the weather in Channelview?

The weather in Channelview ranges from hot to humid in the summer mild and temperate in the winter. There is usually a rainy season in May and the hottest moth is usually in July. The mild winter weather means that you can enjoy all of the activities the Houston metro area has to offer year round.

How do I get around town?

As a part of the Houston metro area, residents of Channelview will need a car in order to have a convenient form of transportation. Public transit options are available if you drive outside of Channelview and into other suburbs. George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby are the airports for the area, offering easy access to national and international air transport to residents. Other options include taxis and ride-sharing apps like UBER.

What is the Channelview commute like?

I-10 will be your primary highway if you are traveling from east to west. It’s the most direct route into the city of Houston itself. For easy access to other parts of the metro area, you can use Loop 610 and Beltway 8 to loop around Houston. Traffic may be heavy at certain times of the day, so you will want to plan accordingly.

What are the local media outlets?

Did you know that the Houston metro area is the tenth-largest media market in the United States?
