If your apartment doesn't allow pets - not even a tiny little bird - you can head down to the awesomely-named Jungle Island to view and interact with some fluffy little creatures in their own setting instead. Originally host to a variety of parrots, the park features more than just our feathered friends, including hippos, tigers, orangutans, and a liger (a lion-tiger cross) named Hercules. The park is famous for being the filming location of the flamingo scenes in Miami Vice's opening credits, and a number of scenes from Police Academy 5 were also filmed there. The park's claims to fame aside, though, it's all about the animals here. The zoo's most important attribute is that they take great care of their animals, and it's easy to see that the handlers care very much for their charges. Many of the birds roam free and the ones that are in cages have a lot of space to move around. The main attraction though, is the level of interactivity with the animals that the park encourages. This includes regular exhibits, such as a bird and reptile show, or a chance to take photos with the park's tigers (a perfect talking point to frame in your apartment). There is also a large water slide near the beach, and a variety of good food stands to whet your appetite. Entry is $25 per person, and parking costs only $7. The park is small enough to see in one day at a moderate pace, depending on which animal (s) holds your fascination.
